BAE Development

The application for this development will be out on Friday 30th Oct. It will be interesting to see if they took any notice of those that met with them.

Yes, of course, you are right, but not everyone knows the correct protocol for doing that kind of thing. Luckily we do have our local Councillors that take an interest and also ‘takes note’ of everything that appears on this Forum. Withyskinner

I fully agree with you but I belive the avenue individuals can take by writing to the Planing Office with their own objections carry as much if not more weight than a one liner from the PC.

If you don’t make your views known by any/all the avenues available, there’s no use complaining afterwards. Decisions may not always go the way we as individuals want, but at least we know we’ve made the effort and not just sat on our hands muttering darkly!

But do they ever listen to mostly unelected Parish Councils Curmudgeon?
Money talks and this is evident by the recent eyesores erected on our Garden Isle.

    Well said Curmudgeon !!!!

I would encourage everyone to come along to the Parish Council meeting at which this unnecessary application will be discussed.
This is pure commercial greed in the guise of optimisation of company assets, providing further surplus industrial units, generating even more traffic, providing a second-tier supermarket harming local trade, and reducing ever more the open space between Cowes and Northwood.
The longer-term intention of BAE Systems for this vital, high added-value employment site with unique facilities needs establishing…..
If you can’t come to the Parish Council meeting, you must make your views known to the Planning Authority and/or your local councillors.
Do not let this attrition go unquestioned!

Just had a look at the planning application online. I never envisaged it would be so extensive – I didn’t get a chance to attend the public meeting and view it previously as I was on my holidays.
You can’t help thinking why do we need more industrial units when there are empty units in both Somerton and Three Gates industrial estates, I can understand the need for a supermarket perhaps though.
It certainly won’t do anything for the general appearance of the area – You can’t beat open green fields.

It will I be a blow to Lapwing lovers like you, but, and its a big but, Jobs will appear for some, on a site thats already surrounded by industrial development.
You are correct about the Senior Managers at BAE SYSTEMS Cowes. I worked on this site and the place was run from Broadoak and the local middle management had no say in what the site done and to my knowledge nothings changed, Senior management with the authority and power to influence “The Board” commute daily to the Island and no major decisions are taken locally, and certainly in my time on this site they would have been very happy to move BAE SYSTEMS off the Island. Before you ask no I was not sacked or made redundant I left like so many to get a job in a company that appears to respect its employees more.

BAE Management are all ‘overners’…….they wont give a jot what us Islanders think about it.
That will be the end of the Lapwings at Somerton !
