The new bus shelter at Fieldway (Newport bound) has been in place for barely a week, yet some goon has still found the time to smash the glass on it. Congratulations must go out to him/her.

If we know who “they are” then lets catch, name and shame them. The Police can only prosecute if they have evidence that will stand up in court and they know this. If we can supply this evidence and help convict them, that will take the smile of their faces. Its obvious from the mindless acts they are not the brightest of the community and if we cant outsmart a little bunch of thugs like these then we get what we deserve.
perhaps norwood is just that boreing that breaking a few pains is the best young people can do. An indication for their contempt for being stuck on an deep in the country on an island off the south coast and away from “the action”?
We know who is responsible for the acts, the police just keep giving them warnings.
sorry but i wonder if the police have any power at all or are either too personally friendly with the family or scared of them..
and thats just my opinion.
The IW Council are responsible for bus shelters, not Southern Vectis.
I agree too, but breaking a glass panel like that with a brick/stone/club is a pretty instantaneous act ie. By time the glass has been broken and the neighbouring properties are aware of it, the perpetrator is likely to have long since fled. Thus any details the police are likely to receive are very vague. As a further thought, I asumed that Southern Vectis had stopped using glass in bus shelters long ago and replaced with Perspex which is harder to vandalise and less likely to cause injury, and seeing as this is a new shelter I thought this would have applied.
I agree if you want vandalism to stop it’s up to the individual to challenge this behaviour or at the very least report it to the police. Its easy, pick the phone up and dial 101, and yes you can get through, it’s an urban myth that 101 is always busy. When you do speak to the operator, be polite, give them the offender’s details such as age, height, clothing and better still a name if known. Also be prepared to give a statement to the police and if necessary stand up in court, because the police cant do it for you. If you’re not prepared to do this then the vandals have won and the community has lost.
I wonder how the perpetrator of the damage would react if something that he had worked and saved for, and finally been able to buy and enjoy, was smashed to pieces so that it was unuseable and he had to work and save for another one. I am sure he or she would not be very pleased – I hope everyone who sees this damage will be absolutely furious and anyone that saw the damage being done will make sure the offender is reported. We have to assume that the cost of repair will now be added to everyone’s council tax bill.
Does nobody ever see or hear anything? This seems to have occurred with monotonous regularity just recently – surely there is some noise or disturbance associated with this vandalism. Or is it just that it’s too much trouble to pick up the phone…..?
