FOOD FOR THOUGHT!!
The Parish Council, following the recent uncontested election, has four vacancies which should now be filled by co-option of any interested persons. If anyone would like to help make a difference I encourage you to put your name forward. The co-option of persons to serve on Northwood Parish Council will be considered at the meeting to be held on 1 JUNE 2010.
Persons wishing to be considered and who are eligible* to serve as a Parish Councillor should submit their application to the Clerk, Mrs B Herbert, of 11 Wyatts Lane, Northwood, PO31 8QB in writing, under their own signature by 28 MAY 2010.
Prospective candidates may be asked to make a short presentation to the Parish Council on how they can contribute to the Parish Council and the community of Northwood. This will be held prior to the meeting.
The Parish Council will then formally co-opt the successful candidates to serve on the Parish Council at the meeting on 1 June.
* A local councillor must be 21 years of age or over and a British subject or citizen of the Irish Republic. He/she must also be a local government elector of the Parish or a person who has:
i. During the whole of the 12 months before nomination occupied land or premises as owner or tenant in the Parish or,
ii. During the same period resided in the Parish, or within 3 miles thereof or,
iii. During the same period had his/her principal or only place of work in that area.

Here we go again, the same old arguments put up to give credence to those who ‘talk’ the ‘talk’ but do nothing else.
Strangely there is much about the comments made by Tax Payer that in the main I agree with, over several years I have trod a similar path trying to convince people that locally we are over governed.
Continually I was lambasted from several contributors for being in their words a long range sniper, and that I should put myself forward as the only realistic way to make the type of change I was advocating for local governance.
Let me say quiet clearly I do not intend to be a type of ‘fifth columnist’ intent on causing splits etc. Once I have been convinced of the merits of an issue, I will work solidly towards getting it resolved.
Now hopefully I will have my chance to ‘make a difference’ If I fail it will not be for the lack of trying.
For now I will leave it at that….Best Wishes.

Perhaps you can ask Gurnard Parish Council to supply 4. The logic behind this is the majority of most Island PC agendas is not local Parish items but stem from IW council issues and could save both PCs spending time and administration cost ( the lions share of the precept) on duplicity.
It would also be a step towards combining these two PCs that are only a hedgerow apart and represent people that live and act so similar it’s a farce to pretend they have different needs and need 18 Councillors and two clerks to talk about notice boards flowers and dog bins.
Lets grow up and deal with the issues that concern us all locally and not try to pretend that we have dozens of people waiting to join these PCs, both PCs have not had the requirement for ballot box elections (20 years+ for Gurnard) and always end up with a shortfall of councillors that then has the power to carry out co-option and this in my view is not democracy. Why is it right that a group of unelected can pick from a list of more unelected to carry out the job of Council representatives?
I’m sure I will be told “you get what you deserve” but that’s not always what happens, we get what others impose, and that’s not always the best.
You may also say that I have no right to a view as my name is not in the frame, but I’m not an MP either, nor want to be, but I still have a view on what changes my life.

As The Parish Council has had two very welcome and eminently suitable persons submit applications, they are now actively seeking a further two interested prospective candidates to come forward to join them as councillors on the Parish Council.
A new deadline of 1 July, will enable co-option to take place at the meeting scheduled for 6 July.
