This is more of a rant than anything.
I love living in Northwood and feel privileged to do so. I take daily walks around the village and love how green it looks compared with other villages around the island. The work of the volunteers that tend the flower beds do a grand job in the Spring too.
However the one thing that bugs me is the way that residents treat the grass verges we have beside, particularly along Nodes Road.
Some properties use them as additional car parking spaces and destroy them – Just look at No.33 Nodes Road, and the house opposite. I’m aware grass is hardy and will recover eventually but boy does it look a mess at this time of year. The odd delivery van sometimes bump up onto them, but never cause as much mess as the ones highlighted above.
Rant over – Keep up the good work everyone else.

Many thanks. Very useful. Roger M.
This was Nodes Road again Roger.

Now that’s very interesting and relevant. Could you give us the road please? Roger Maz.
It should also be noted that Royal Mail vans are big offenders in churning up our grass verges, I saw one doing a wheel-spin, as my gradson puts it, off our verge last week.

Noted as well, thank you for being so open about this. Roger Maz.
Mr and Mrs Mabey – I hope my original post wasn’t taken as a personal attack on you, as you are not the only offenders, but thank you for your reply. It’s good to know that you are willing to rectify things and that you care enough to do so.
Good luck with your home improvements.

Dear Mr Kettering
We apologise for the state of the verge outside of our house (no. 33). As we are sure you have noticed, during your walks, we are currently having some home improvements which have necessitated vehicles parking outside (i.e. builder, electrician, plumber etc). The home improvements have also resulted in the temporary loss our garage and, as we do not have a large driveway, we have had to park outside of our property.
Rest assured we will restore the verge as soon the work to our property is complete.
Mr and Mrs Mabey
Thank you Mr. Kettering. Quite right! Certain owners have been warned about damage to these grass verges in the past and that if they continue to damage them, they will be held liable for the re-turfing or seeding costs.
I will ask Highways to make an inspection and to take what action they consider fair and appropriate in the circumstances.
Best wishes, Cllr. Roger Mazillius
