I really could not believe my eyes when I read the minutes of the last Northwood Community Partnership meeting. Did they (us!) really pay £4,000 for a notice board.
“The overall cost of this Project was almost £4,000 of which the Partnership provided 20% of the cost. Ultimately, this has reduced our funds to an extremely low level. With automatic grants no longer available from the Isle of Wight Council, it will become even more difficult to fund future projects bringing benefit to Northwood.”
Is that not roughly a third of the entire Parish Council budget for a year. I am really pleased they do not get automatic grants of taxpayers money any more if this is how they waste our money.

It has not gone unnoticed then ? Whatever ‘finish’ was originally put on…….is no longer on it !
And it does not matter ‘where’ the money came from………..it was still ‘overpriced’ in my opinion.

That’ll be £750 per coat please.
Thank you…………..then the originator of this thread must have had their lines crossed.

ps. It needs a good coat of something already.
The £4,000.00 was for the overall cost of the project, of which the Noticeboard cost was less than 25%. Included in this project was the purchase and placing of 4 Bus Shelter seats for the benefit of residents within the village. 20% of the overall cost was funded by the Community Partnership and the remaining 80% was obtained from making written bids to grant funders. It is worth noting that none of this money came from your or any residents Parish Precept.
I suggest next time those that spend money on things for the village paid out the Public purse look on the Internet. I have looked and many Hardwood lockable similar quality notice boards that would be suitable for our use are advertised by several reputable company’s, for half the price we paid. OK we would have to dig 2 Holes and use a few bags of post ballast/cement, to plant it. I guess a Thousand pounds a hole would have been an incentive.
As if the cost wasn’t bad enough who dreamt of placing it where it is?? ninety degrees to an already laid seviceable footpath giving rise to a few paving slabs to have to be laid to give access to read the notices. It is now easier for the passing speeding motorists to read. Well done to all involved.

Nodes Road.
Yes but the last guess on the cost breakdown only added up to half the FOUR THOUSAND POUNDS.
That makes it twice as crazy.
I only wish I could charge my labour at those rates, and I am timed-served, fully skilled but not in the right circles obviously! This is a notice board by the way not a monument!
AN EDUCATED GUESS
NOTICEBOARD MATERIALS £800
(Includes ‘toughened’ glass)
LABOUR (1 Man 40hrs) £800
ERECTION MATERIALS £100
ERECTION LABOUR (2 men x 4hrs) £160
SUNDRIES £60
TOTAL £1920
£4000?!
Perhaps a breakdown of the costs posted on here would help to put peoples minds at rest.
A Parish without a £4,000 notice board is a sensible well managed Parish that understands that we live in the 21st century not the 19th.
Every property in Northwood has a monthly newsletter placed through their door containing all the local news, events and information. The Northwood Village website repeats and augments this information and is available worldwide. I believe that more than satisfies the requirement to inform the community.
This notice board only serves as a monument to the narrow minds that conceived it and the birds that will poop on it.
I will have to take a closer look to try and understand the possible ‘split’ ie, materials/labour/erection costs, but what is a Parish without a notice board ? Nothing short of an ill-informed community………….It had to be done. Better than spending more money on another traffic confusing pinch point !
