TIME TAKES TOLL ON WINDOWS

Posted by Admin on 23 August 2007, 12:00 am

Just for once, I am not referring to any well-known software!

Two of the major stained glass windows in St John the Baptist Church at Northwood are succumbing to the ravages of time and the elements. The West window (in the tower) and one of the South windows need extensive repairs to their surrounding stonework and supporting metalwork. The West window will have to be completely removed to facilitate its repair; the South window may be repairable in situ – or may not.

An initial estimate of the cost to repair both windows is £40,000. This is a conservative estimate and additional costs may be incurred once work has started and the full condition of the windows becomes established.

An appeal to raise funds to cover the repair costs of the windows will be launched on Saturday, September 22nd. We will combine a Gift Day, with a Coffee Morning, and a Day of Prayer for the tasks ahead of us. Please do come and join us.

There will be further fund-raising events later on this year and next.

Donations and ideas for fund-raising will be most welcome!

Please contact the Rector, Lyn McRostie, or either of the Churchwardens. Your help, support and prayers will be most welcome.
