Parish Council Update.

I write this month’s report to you several pounds in weight heavier, and several pounds lighter in cash following a wonderful Christmas of excess with my family over the holiday period. For this reason I welcomed the opportunity to lose some of my excess Christmas Turkey chasing up signatures for our soon-to-be Parish Council. Despite collecting a handful of signatures in Wyatts Lane, it was an experience that I fully enjoyed!!  Many, many thanks for the opportunity to get to know more of my neighbours, and many thanks for the hospitality (!!) and words of support which myself, Roger and Ron Willis received whilst knocking at your doors.

Roger collected the lion’s share of the signatures returning the petition with 373 names (250 were required!). We currently await approval from the office of the Deputy Prime Minister.

In the meantime the Partnership has been asked to set a precept, in preparation for the formation of the new Parish Council. The precept will be set by the next open Committee meeting of the Partnership. At this meeting, the Committee will be urged to keep the precept to no more than what the County Council would have set it, had circumstances regarding emparishment been different. Obviously, when the new Parish Council is established after 2007, the decision for raising the precept will fall upon the shoulders of your new Parish Councillors. I will report back concerning what the precept will be in the next edition of Northwood News.

If you require any further information Roger reminds me that he has called a public meeting for 7.30pm, Friday 24 February at Northwood W.I Hall.

Police Report.

Following the new licensing laws coming into force at Christmas, the police’s initial concerns for alcohol-related anti-social behaviour remain unfounded.

A number of named residents are being called upon to assist the police with their enquiries concerning the burglaries in Cowes, Gurnard and Northwood from last year.

Most of the incidents reported in Northwood over the past couple of months relate to neighbourhood disputes and domestic matters, peaking during Christmas.

For further information contact John Pullen on 01983 281250.

Village Design Statement.

At the time of writing, the Partnership has received confirmation that we have been successful in our bid for £5000 to write our Village’s design brief within the Council’s new Local Development Framework (Plan).  Northwood has become the very first unparished area in the country to be successful in its bid.

The bid was the easy part though; this is where the hard work begins.  If you want to know more contact Roger on 01983 295556, who remains anxious to pass the initiative on to the Community!

New Headteacher for Northwood School.

It is with a very heavy heart, that Vicki Johnson will be leaving Northwood School at the end of this summer term.  Vicki has not only made Northwood School a leader amongst Primary Schools, she has continued to enthuse a whole generation of children, staff and parents with her motivation and dynamism. As a friend to our community she will be sadly missed, and will certainly be a very difficult act for her successor to follow!
