NORTHWOOD COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP NEWS (Colin Palmerton)

We are delighted that one local resident heeded our request for help within the Partnership. Furthermore, a second person has intimated an interest in joining us for our July meeting. A big welcome is extended to both of them.

More people would be most welcome. The more of us there are, the less each of us has to do.

Our County Councillor reported that remedial road works were proceeding between Cowes and Newport. A new sign had been erected at the entrance to Somerton Business Park.

The entire village’s flower troughs are now planted for the summer, thanks to generous sponsorship from Wightlink’s Wight in Bloom scheme. The plants were supplied by Ryde House Nurseries. Many thanks are due to those people who, almost willingly, gave a little of their free time for planting and watering the troughs.

Northwood is entered for ‘Wight in Bloom, Best Community Project’. This event will be judged during July.

Friday 10th July is the date for the judging of the 2009 Calor Village of the Year competition. The judges will be at the WI Hall, Newport Rd for an hour from 10:30 a.m. Please come along and support your village. There may even be a cup of tea for you! Between now and then it would be appreciated if everyone could take a little extra time to clear any litter they find anywhere within the village.

A few very good ideas have been received, by Alan Chick, for inclusion in the Village Welcome Pack. More are needed. Alan can be contacted on Tel: 01983 296020; Email: alanchick@tiscali.co.uk

The Village Trail Project ‘plods on’. It is beginning to take the form of a figure of eight with long, short, easy and not so easy walks.

As mentioned last month, it’s still your village. It’s your choice. If you have ideas, suggestions to improve Northwood or maybe even a small amount of time to give (rarely more than two hours, once a month!), any Partnership member would be delighted to hear from you. The Partnership does not exist to tell you what is wanted in Northwood. You tell us and we will make every effort to achieve it on your behalf.

The next meeting of the Community Partnership will be on Tuesday, 28th July in Northwood W.I. Hall, Newport Road commencing at 7.45pm. There is no meeting in August. (The majority of ‘Northwood Gnomes’ are on holiday).

The following meeting is 22nd September, same place and time.
