Cowes Medical Centre

Prescriptions are changing at Cowes Medical Centre.
.
To help us manage the increasing number of prescriptions, all you need to do is let us know which pharmacy
you would like your prescription sent to. It is easy to do, simply tell us over the phone, at the front desk, or on
a prescription request form. You don’t need a computer, we send it electronically to the pharmacy you have
chosen.
.
We are also increasing the number of patients on Repeat Dispensing (batch) – this means the GP approves a
prescription list once, for up to 12 months’ of medication. You then don’t need to keep requesting repeat
prescriptions, instead you can go to the pharmacy you have selected when your next medication is due. (This
will not be suitable for all patients, or all medication, but the majority of patients will be able to use this
service).
.
Benefits from these changes:
• Reduce the queue at the front desk
• Patients are able to collect their medication from a pharmacy without having to visit their GP to collect a
paper prescription
• The Practice and the pharmacy can track the prescription all the way through the process
• GPs spend less time dealing with prescriptions which saves valuable time, and we hope this will
result in more appointments for our patients.
.
Thank you to all our patients for their support, and to our Patient Participation Group for helping us to promote
this information.
