Jersey Camp 2014 (09)

Our host for the walk was Terrance Rolf MBE, shown in the camouflage jacket. After retiring from the forces, Terry was appointed range warden in 1975 and inherited a site of about 810 acres that was run down and under used. Following Terry’s appointment he set about repairing the facilities and invested much of his time in conservation around the site. A conservation group was created in 1976.

An interesting feature of the bridge in the background is that an excavation there revealed a deposit of chalk, below a 2 to 3 metres layer of impervious clay, that was found to be absolutely dry.
