Jersey Camp 2014 (12)

Demonstrating Bird Ringing Techniques.
Many members of the CREEA group were interested in the means of catching and ringing birds to investigate migration routes and discover the effects of changes to habitats. The picture shows a mist net which entraps the birds without causing damage. Catching and ringing the birds is highly specialised requiring specialised training and licensing. Identifying the rings has indicated that distance covered by very small birds can be many thousands of miles. There was insufficient time to answer all questions posed but judging by the number of questions ornithology would be an interesting subject for a future visit.
