New CD to aid Island Hospice

The Phoenix Jazz Ensemble – comprising Peter Trueman (piano), Mike Whitehead (bass), Roger Mason (tenor sax/flute) and Bill Wills (drums) have produced a collection of original music by Peter in time for the run-up to Christmas. This is likely to be the Island’s jazz album of 2009 and all profits will be donated to The Isle of Wight Earl Mountbatten Hospice, which received over £700 from their first album.

During 2009 the Ensemble renewed their relationship with Wolverton Manor in concerts with the superb jazz vocalist Nette Robinson and classical flautist Kate Cuzner who has an amazing flair for jazz improvisation. They are both featured on the CD.

Peter Trueman is a prolific composer and all the tunes were written during this year. They realised that most of these reflected a look back at seasons on the Isle of Wight in 2009 and as Vivaldi had already used the “Four Seasons” title, they chose “Buckets and Spades” from one of the recorded tracks.

The music and style of the band will delight modern jazz enthusiasts and would also sit comfortably with most music lovers.

This would make an excellent Christmas present to discerning music lovers and will provide the hard-pressed Hospice with very welcome funds.

It is on sale at the I.W. County Press shop in Pyle Street, Newport, and Waterstones in High Street, Newport priced at £10.
