President Denise Hunter welcomed members to the meeting.

Birthday cards were given to members whose birthdays will be celebrated in July and August.
.
Rose McNeill from Cowes W.I. who was the delegate at the AGM in Leeds on our behalf gave a short report. The resolution this year was about more people signing up as Organ Donors. This was passed by 5300 votes to 130 against.
.
There were some excellent speakers – Andrew Motion (Poet), Dr George MacGavinn, a wild life expert, and Bill Turnbull, BBC announcer and broadcaster.
.
2015 is our Centenary Year here in Britain, so it will be a big celebration. Along with a Centenary Rose there are various items of china depicting the occasion. There is also going to be a baton travelling around the country and this will be arriving on the Island in January.
.
Names were taken for our outing in August, which will be to the Owl and Monkey Sanctuary, Newport. Also we will be holding another one of our very popular Lunch and Games on the 11th September.
.
Our speaker was Mark Earp who gave a very excellent talk about Newport from the 1700s to the 1900s. It was very surprising looking at the slides how little the actual outline of Newport has changed. In the mid 1700s, 25,000 soldiers were billeted on the Island at various locations, one of which was here at Northwood in the late Military Museum grounds. He was so interesting to listen to that I didn’t take more notes of his talk (sorry).
