The Trustees of Northwood House have published a Consultation Paper on their web page Northwoodhouse.org where it is possible to request a paper copy or comment.Disposals are suggested also the re-writing of the Deed of Gift and the 2002 Scheme. There is only ONE MONTH to comment, please do if you care about the house or park.
Not for much longer, im sorry to say!
The Council washed its hands of this Public facility as it was not able to cope with the management and now they can stand back and smile.
It was given to the ‘people of Cowes’ in 1929……………Let any Cowes born person that is over 81 years of age vote whether to give it to the National Trust or not !! It belongs to ‘them’ at the moment.
Give it to the National Trust !!! CNC
I have no idea how many people did contact the IW Councillors when this was suggested by the originator of this thread but we all know now they have given the problem away! I realise many people had strong views about the direction that Northwood House was going last year and many voiced them here on this site.
I think we are now very close to loosing a facility that has been our jewel in the crown for decades. I believe that most people in this part of the Island are totally unaware of the reasons why the IW council has washed its hands of “The House” the beautiful Park, the car park, the bowling greens and tennis courts, and toilets. We are now told these are now the responsibility of a few volunteer Trustees?
If in the last 30 or so years with all the well paid experts that sit in the Ivory Towers at Newport with the facilities that we pay for at an arms length it was not possible to run this facility in the black, then what chance do these Trustees have?
This magnificent “gift” to the people of Northwood Parish should be saved for future generations as we all know when it’s gone it can never be replaced, and if in the next few years things don’t work out and it goes on the property market, and yes that could happen, it’s a developers dream site. Most of us will say “why” but when the park is shut it’s no good shouting then. Please get on to the IW Councillors as already suggested as its still their problem and will be until its solved and tell them they must support this with more than just” hot air” as its not to late, yet! The elections may be a few years away but we don’t forget that easily.
