Please can anyone tell me if there are any persons willing to start up a Nearly New Sale type shop once or twice a week at the W.I. Hall in Northwood.
We had a small one many years ago at the Church Centre before it was taken down and as far as I can remember it did do well from time to time. We could take in donations, also nearly new clothing and small household items. An electrician can test out any electrical items before being sold, money made can go to a good cause, charities, and the hire of the hall.
Items brought in by members of the public can be sold on a commission basis. Please let me know your views on this. There are a lot of people with no transport around Northwood and who also have young children and cannot afford much. I think it would be a great idea for the community.
Kind Regards

Don’t hold your breath RD. Good idea’s are not all that welcome in the village. It seems that there is a trait running through the village, that seems to say if the origin is not from one of the village ‘top runners’, then it won’t succeed.
Can hear all the feet stamping even now, but history has a habit of being proven right. How many items have seen the light of day only to left to rot on the vine? Interest nil.
Not sure what is required to spark some life into the community, but whatever it is we need it in bucket loads.

Has anyone heard of any progress in this matter please? It seems to have “gone away” as I haven’t seen any mention of it anywhere, nor any advertisements putting forward the suggestion. I think it would be a good idea if they can get enough people interested in manning it, but also enough donations to get it going. But it does look as if there is no interest anyway.

If the originator thinks it might help, perhaps an advert in Northwood News would get things going, as that is delivered to every household in the parish.
Email address is on the back cover of NN or use the links on this website.

You are right – the Nearly New at the (then) Church Centre did very well over the years. One of the key issues then – and I’m sure now – was the storage of donated items between sale days.
I shall be interested to see what level of support there is now for this activity…
Good Luck!
