Refuse Collection

Posted by Tax Payer on Friday, 16th April 2010, 17:51

Can somebody, Councillors or those that are better informed than me, explain who is responsible for any injury caused by my black bags dumped on the footpath at the IW Council’s request.
If I leave normal rubbish on the pavement I can get a fine, or be sued for injury to the public; what’s different about rubbish in a black bag?
I am sure others have asked this Question so perhaps Mr Pugh or his disciples would like to communicate to us Tax Payers.

Tax Payer.

Tax Payer, I applaud your determination sticking at getting so called ‘representatives’ to be answerable to the tax payers. But I fear you may have to continue for a while yet. The reason for this comment is that the only time that you will get to challenge the IOW Council is at ballot box time.
Even then, the game of ‘weasel words’ will magically appear and you will be no nearer the truth.

The recent example with the MPs expenses when they had to dragged kicking and screaming to publicise their expenses was the way Democracy works in this country…unfortunately. True transparency, though desirable, is a hard solution to achieve.

    More power to your elbow,

Still no reply from our men at the tiller, or are we now like the Mary Celeste? No captain, or crew. This just proves certain mandates that our Council issue are so stupid and ill conceived that after the general public point out the obvious flaws they still wont admit they are wrong. We don’t have the advantage of hidden mikes to get the real opinion, if you follow my drift, shame.

As an adjunct to the current thread, This morning I placed my waste out at the prescribed place, within the prescribed time, and during the intervening period until collection, the plastic bags and kitchen waste was run over by a Post Office delivery van.

The resultant mess was blowing around and the organic waste spread over the foot way.

I resorted to picking up the dry waste and placed back into split bags, the other waste scrapped back into what was left of the plastic bag.

All the bags were duly collected.

This is an illustration of the effects that can arise when the bags are placed so close to the vulnerable kerb, careless drivers parking on the foot way to ease delivery are going to make this a practice Island wide.

They cant speak against the masters and its difficult to justify the latest stupid move, so I suppose silence is golden, but it does make you realise the system is not working as it should.
The County Press had a few letters about it today and we all know the silent majority are just as unhappy at being treated like idiots.

On a different matter I see those that want a platform on the Parish council are unopposed again this year, not really surprised though.
If I got it right 4 are on unopposed and we are looking for 5 more? Democracy at its best. I think we should still vote for the 4 at least they can use the word elected then, and the number that bother to vote will show the support, or not.

Its is strange that no response has been forth coming from any of the elected representatives that are local to this area, some are never this reticent to get into print.

I look forward to the next elections for the IOW Council, I am 100% certain this issue will still be hotly contested by residents all over the Island. Our turn will come!

still no official response so I guess that’s a “computer says no” that’s a shame.

Lets face it, us mere local tax payer’s are never going to be listened too. After all, councils and governments promise all sorts of grandiose schemes when toting for votes, then once ensconced in the leather seats they please themselves, this scheme has dropped from high and is an example of what’s to come our way. Perhaps?
Refuse, Education, Roads, all major issues where the concerns of residents are swept away as of no matter. Why do we bother?….makes you wonder.

My assessment of the County Press article is our council has made a judgment that as few court cases have happened so far in the rest of the country due to the bags on the footpaths decision they will take a chance. Sounds like the right level of thought has gone into this risky money saving venture as usual.

What was? At least put some substance into a post so we can make a judgement.

It was covered by the CP but not all read this rag, and Tax Payer asked for a view from the Council via our forum that’s regularly used by our Councilors. It seems to many of us that the IW Council has once again decided to cut cost at the lower end. A few more bin men joining the redundancy list is hardly going to make a big difference to our Council Tax Bills.
Remove some of the layers of expensive bureaucracy and we may be getting on the right track.

This was covered quite well in this weeks IOW County Press.

The roll out of this latest piece of ‘efficiency’ savings by the IOW Council, is a classic local government measure.
If as is being stated by the Managers of the Waste Collection Service, by reducing the amount of walking and therefore time, the cost of the collections will be held. Sorry If I am sceptical about this methodology but my instinct tells me there will be an increase in administration of the whole service, Result…. Higher Costs?…To us.
Time will tell of course, I will be the first to apologise if the increases do not materialise.
Leopard and Spots come to mind?

    Hi Joe 89+1
Our forum is monitored by the disciples and I thought this was a good place to try to contact them and get the answer for others to see.
I should have known better they will never give out that sort of information it could be used in court, but it was worth a go.
We get the Mushroom treatment again.
