STEERING MARK

There’s a spot I know,
where the warm winds blow
right across the Gulf,
out of Mexico:
and Cortez knew it too.
It’s the Sail Rock, laced
white with guano – placed
where the glass-clear tides
show its base embraced
by sponges’ purple-blue.
