“Sharon Lyons of Newport Road, Northwood, a pupil of Somerton Middle School, was crowned last Friday as the Northwood May Queen and Saturday will be her big day.
She received most votes in a village ballot, where the photos of candidates for the title were on display in two shops – one of them run by Sharon’s parents.
Assisting Sharon will be four attendants, all pupils of Northwood County Primary School. They are Shelby Hill, Beverley Lines, Julia Richards and Jane Babonau.
The new May Queen was crowned by her predecessor Judy Camp, at a disco held at the Northwood Community Centre.
Tomorrow attention will turn to Northwood W.I. Hall, where after a procession through the village, celebrations are due to take place.”

Unfortunately after a few years, the committee were unable to get more helpers, even though letters were sent to all local properties, so the May Queen and May Day celebrations ended.
