Northwood Main Gas Supply 1931

Installation of main sewerage or possibly gas supply in Pallance Road 10th May 1931 – Picture shows Locals with Navvies, and Jacquie Pearce’s father Peter Pearce with his elder brother Laurie.
Can anyone determine whether this would be gas or sewerage being installed?

My cousin and I both have a copy of this photo and my mother, who was then called Hilda Joyce Perry, and his father, Frederick Donald Chessell are both in the group. We have just noticed the picture on your website. My Uncle was great friends with the Pearce brothers. We have always understood that the photo was taken when the gas main was installed in Northwood. On the back of one of our copies is written “1931 – “Snowball” & Co – the men who laid the Northwood Gas Mains”. I will be happy to discuss further – Marilyn Earley.
