Pallance Road Pinch Point

The new pavement from Nodes Road to Wyatts Lane is a fantastic improvement. However the pinch point seems a little ill-conceived. All it does is cause traffic chaos at busy times while offering no deterrent to speeding motorists in the less busy times. They just zoom down the middle of road at the same speed as usual.

I would suggest that the many cars, vans and lorries that park in this area in themselves create more than enough pinch points to calm motorists at busy times. Though the word calm may only apply to the vehicles not the drivers.

The pinch point is a ridiculous idea, probably designed by some halfwit in highways that does not even have a driving licence and has not studied the road and is vehicle usage. Now established it causes more problems because of the amount of inconsiderate road users who decide to park near it, making the pinch 'point' about 100 yards long, instead of the intended 10 feet or so. Still, its no better than what I would expect from highways, judging from the other road design disasters scattered about the Island. It must have knocked 25% off the value of all property in upper Pallance Road.

I have seen it all. Ridiculous traffic calming attemt at the top of Pallance Road and today (26/07/07)police at the bottom of Pallance Road, with a speed camera, catching 'ordinary' drivers doing 35mph in a 30mph speed limit. When are they going to clamp down on the 'racing cars' that speed up the dual carriageway in the evenings !!! Are the police frightened of these speeding halfwits or what ?

As already suggested, this pinch point stretches from the corner shop to Wyatts Lane and in my opinion is more dangerous than not having one. Whoever dreamed this stupid idea up is an absolute nutter and will be responsible for an accident one day................if not already.

My favourite is the nice people who think that double-yellow lines outside the shop in Pallance Road mean it's OK to park for five minutes! I especially like the considerate ones who park their cars on the pavement. After all, prams and wheelchairs don't pay road tax so blocking them is surely not a problem, right?
