Play Area - vandalism or new slide?

What's happened to the old slide? On Friday there were lots of barriers around broken concrete, but no notices or signs telling users what was going on, or taking credit for any new investment in the area.

As you may have noticed, a new slide and smoking shelter have now been installed.

A smoking shelter ? So thats what it is. Ive never seen such a stupid thing....and what an odd position to put it in........I wonder why. But what a nice reward for vandalising the garages. Such nice kids...........smoking, drinking, copulating and urinating in public.
Still...............gotta keep their pizza dry I suppose.

The official term is a 'teen shelter,' the idea is it stops them hanging around the garages and gives a safe and friendly place to meet. The reason for the position is so it is visible to the public and allows the youngsters to watch football (new goals to follow) and the basketball hoop (to follow next week). The slide is being replaced by the IW Council, but the other equipment is through a Youth Opportunities Fund grant applied for by the young people and supported by the Northwood Community Partnership.

Dont forget there cans and bottles of beer(to keep dry)well at least the garages wont get damaged. I thought under 18 yr olds were not allowed to smoke and drink so who on earth thought of such a eyesore to go on a childrens play area? where there are no bins to put there fag butts and bottles and cans?????what a waste of time and money. The teens will no doubt get moved on again.

Why not just put an underground shelter on the park that way you wont see all the rubbish they leave behind :-)

Thanks for the sensible input (? on 30 June 2008 03:58:00). The subsequent comment about a bin looks valid. There was loads of litter around the teen shelter this morning. Placing it slightly forward and offset to the open side may also discourage its use a goal.

I dont doubt that you teenagers look at this website.....so please read this and think about it. I am of the opinion that 'some' of the vandalism was probably caused by nothing more than boisterous horseplay (sorry about that description) And Im sure any of you are able to discourage it in the future.
I know you only want to have a good time, but do 'you' yourselves actually like to see the rubbish scattered about ? Correct me if I am wrong, but I dont think you do.
Come on lads & girls........have a tidy up now and then and get yourselves a good name.
You could do yourselves a lot of good by caring about 'our' area. Take your litter home, keep an eye on the youngsters crossing the road etc. I know you are not really a bad lot.............so come on.............please try, dont let your parents down, cos its them that are going to get the blame in the long run.

The young people of Northwood have always complained quote."There is nothing to do or nothing provided for us" Well it looks like some one has listened, behold new facilities on the recreational area. Unfortunately all of you will be judged by the acts of the few as always; I agree with the sentiments of the previous post, make a small effort and tidy up,not much to much to ask, rather than be vilified by all and sundry. Your antics will be monitored, if all goes well we all will get along living without folk constantly getting on "your backs".
The concept of a happy community is not that hard to achieve is it??
Finally remember we have all been where you are now, nothing has changed except tolerance to the young; take away the detractors ammunition and life will be a happier place.

Come on then, who will be the first young person to stand proud above the rest and do a spot of rubbish removal ? Or will it be 'all' of you taking turns ?
Dont be embarrassed by any mickey taking, its a worthwhile job and I promise you, will be very much appreciated by us 'oldies'. Who will be the first to ask for a litter picker tool ? A necessary piece of equipment I would say. Is there any resident reading this that would be happy to 'sponsor' one ?

No takers then ! I really thought you could do better than that. What a disappointment you must be to your parents. I dont think too much of your parents either. They 'must' see the rubbish you leave and think nothing of it. Thanks to whoever 'does' pick it up, because 'somebody' often does...............'they' know who they are.
