Northwood News Opinions

I would welcome any comments that any Northwood resident has on the content and any other aspect of the parish magazine, Northwood News.

I have made several attempts to vary what appears each month, including Crossword, Wordsearch and Sudoku puzzles, and whenever possible I try to include poems and other articles by local residents, but have no idea really how they are perceived, as I receive very little feedback.

My aim has always been to add articles of general interest in addition to the basic Church and Local Organisations' details in what is first and foremost a Parish Church magazine, so I thought this Forum might be an ideal platform on which residents could let me know what they would like to see appearing each month, and indeed what they think of the newsletter itself; not just its content, but its appearance and format - bearing in mind that the quality that we can produce is severely restricted by the only printing process which is at our disposal, and the very limited funds available to produce the 20-24 pages every month.

So please let me have your opinions, even if it's just to say that your copy, when shredded, makes ideal pet litter, or goes straight into the bin! If that is the case I would hope it is your recycling bin, not your waste bin.

I can be contacted via the Reply function here or at the email address on this website or in Northwood News.

Thank you for reading this.

Summer Solstice
Posted: Sunday, June 25, 2006 10:48 AM
I have just read on your website the contribution by Matt Rosenberg on the summer solstice and the difference between this and the earliest sunrise and latest sunset. He states that "the earliest sunrise Anchorage experiences is at 4:20 am but lasts from June 15th until June 23rd" This may be correct for the "minutes" element of the sunrise time but if he consults "Google Earth" he will get sunrise and sunset times for practically anywhere on the globe by minutes and seconds. On thios basis, at least in Banbury, the earliest sunrise is on June 17th AND ONLY ON JUNE 17th. The solstice accurs half way between the earliest sunrise (on 17th of June) and the latest sunset (on 25th of June). I hope this clarifies matters.

Best wishes to Northwood village from Swalcliffe Village N Oxfordshire.
