I noticed some workmen recently re-vamping the playing field amenities, which included putting up new goal posts on the football pitch. Well less than a week has gone by and they have been (I presume) sat on and bent. The local kids don't deserve these things if they are going to treat them like that and I think they should be removed and let them go without. They sicken me ... who drags up kids like that?

I think you are only talking about a minority of kids. But there does seem to be a stream of vandalism recently with graffiti on roadside electronic boxes (wightcables i think) and road bollards being bashed down.

Its seems they have no respect for the community they live in. Removing the playground equipment is not the answer as that just denies the majority of families that do value the facilities from enjoying them. If anybody sees vandalism taking place they should phone the Police, maybe a PC knocking on their door would give them pause for thought!?

Of course, you are right, but the police are not even interested in cars 'racing' up the dual carriageway, so I wouldnt expect them to be very interested in a couple of bent goal posts.

i think that comments a bit harsh about who drags up kids like that.
the only reason the goals are bent is because they were tiny plastic goal posts.small enough for them to PLAY on and swing about.
And the only reason the other goal posts (which were obviously very sturdy as they had been there for years) had gone were because neighbours whos garden wall is on the park kept complaining of the footballs going over and banging on the wall.
Let them remember their house is built on a plot of land where the youth club was!!!! which makes me so angry they complain all the time. obviously that has gone!
And its not the local kids from northwood ie horshoe close/wroxall close/ venner ave/ oxford st destroying stuff its neighbouring kids that come up to the park that are spray painting so it wouldnt be fair to take away these things if its not them doing it.

95% of the children that use the park, cause no problems at all. It's a shame really that the 5% that abuse this facility ruins it for the rest of us! A couple of months ago there was a group of teenagers that were picking on the younger children, according to our beat bobby Mark Thomas the police charged these youths for an offence elsewhere- and the problems now resolved. At the end of June, we reported some fairly offensive material scrawled on the Wightcable Boxes throughout the village. As the children named in this incident were year 5 children from Somerton, I reported this to the Head Marion Smith, who suggested that I also reported this to the police. Although Ms Smith seemed to take this seriously, I'm awaiting her response to how the school has dealt with this.

On another point the new Management Committee are looking for suggestions for new equipment for the Park....Any suggestions. Contact Paul 289595.

First & foremost,I would like to see some kind of a 'slow down' fence and gate sited on the corner where the youngsters run across the road near the footpath leading through to Horseshoe Close garages.
Secondly a sign on all equipment stating an age limit for its usage (to keep the older kids off.....hopefully)
Then perhaps ask the kids themselves what they might like to play on.................perhaps a survey ?...........at school ?

Being a teenager my self (17) i feel that "a sign on all equipment stating an age limit for its usage (to keep the older kids off.....hopefully)" would not work as the types of people who use this area from horshoe close/wroxall close/ venner ave/ oxford st are mostly the type of people who ignore the law one more thing do we even have a village beat bobby i have mever seen one in 17 years.
