Virtual Doorstep (Take 2) – Election 2009

Posted by Luke Sywalker on Monday, 1st June 2009, 11:59

Hi Guys,

Can we start another thread as we only have until Thursday before we have to put a cross next to somebody’s name. The first posting on the previous election thread listed a number of topics the voters in Northwood might be interested in. I will list them here again in no particular order or for that matter a complete list of issues.

I believe the villagers of Northwood would like to know where each candidate stands on these issues. I was then hoping that villagers could ask more questions on these or other topics, again to establish the position of the candidates.

1. Economy
2. Council Tax
3. Dog Mess
4. Development (planning)
5. Speeding
6. Schools
7. Local facilities & Services
8. Should Parish Councils merge?

Perhaps, though this might be covered by item 7 (possibly 5) we could add roads and local transport as a seperate issue.

Limited time I know.

Vandalism does not rule – ok?

Also missing is any sign whatsoever that my two opponents care one jot about our community. NO answers, NO leaflets, NO canvassing, NO participation and I almost wish I could add “NO votes” but doubtless crosses will be placed against their names/parties because that is the way things work.

In the meantime, would Gordon kindly leave the stage.

    Best wishes, Roger Mazillius

I dont see ‘vandalism’ on your list.

Thanks LS/PG. I have been reporting on 2., 3., 4., 5.,6.and 7.,in my regular Roger’s reports and in Northwood News for many years.

So let’s see what the other “candidates” answer on those subjects.

Regarding 1. For 11 years we have had a typical Labour government keen to increase public spending without raising the wealth creating potential of the country. More Civil Servants and Quangos which do not create wealth.

Adding hugely to the work of and cost of Local Authorities. Taking advantage of an unsustainable housing and credit boom to court short term popularity now well and truly coming home to roost!

    8. See my answer on the Green Land – New Homes threads.

Regarding school re-organisation, see my answer today on thread one.
